SYNOPSIS
Hover Tank 3D is an thrid person shooter. You steer a Hovercraft with a turret and hunt your enemies down in a fast paced action experience and nice looking environements. The gfx, although being rather simplistic, are well done and support the futuristic athmosphere of the game.
STORY
In a future world you are a new employee and have to fullfil various tasks, when suddenly an enemy force attacks. Soon you get promoted and your vehicle gets updated with a turret so you can fight the intruder. And that is what you will be doing, soldier.
GAMEPLAY
You steer a hovercraft in an futuristic and stylized environment. With the well know WASD-Controls and your mouse you will move over the at-grade terrain. Your turret is rotatable in 360 degrees, you aim with your mouse. In addition to that you can fly over upgrades and health-packages. In a non-turret mode you can interact with crates adn "tow" them to the desired location.
There are quite a few modes in this game: In singleplayer mode you will learn how to steer your vehicle and experience a story. In multiplayer mode you have the choice between simple deathmatch, capture the flag and Power War. As you can see in the screenshots, this title is fully in 3D.
COMMENT
And that is the more surprising when you know that this game was made with gamemaker, an excellent game authoring program made for 2D games. With a fast growing and very active community game maker could evolve to a 3D gamemaking program. And here comes an example on how good looking it can be.
The graphics of Hover 3D are simplistic and not texturized. They remind me of TRON again, like Cholo has done before. In combination with the action part and the multiplayer modes, Hover is a great freeware Third Person Shooter. I like the puristic designs of the maps and the overall homogeneous aesthetics of the HUD.
Martin Crownover, the developer already is working on a sequel to Hover, which will include heightmaps and has textures. I really am looking forward to play Hover 2, because Hover Tank 3D already is a excellently designed single- and multiplayer game.
