SYNOPSIS
No Gravity is a solid programmed and professionally designed space-shooter game. Despite of most other space shooters, the navigation of your ship is very easy and clearly arranged. Although the game itself does not reeinvent the wheel, it definitly stands up against most other titles of its genre.
STORY
No Gravity is mission-based, you have to protect a cargo, attack an enemy cargo-ship or just clear a sector of mines. There is no throughout the game persisting storyline, though. The short infos at the beginnning of a mission just explain the circumstances and give you some requiered informations on what you will have to do to complete the mission. On the website you will find further information on the KROSSO Empire, the foederation you live in and fight for...
GAMEPLAY
This is a space-shooter, so thing is: you fly a spaceship through endless space and time, here and there you will meet asteroids, enemy spaceshuttles or cargoships. Often the problem with space shooters is the orientation, which you can loose fast in a surrounding which has no bottom, top, left or right. So often you end up rolling desperatly in space to find the ships which are attacking you. When you finally have one in front of you it so fast is past you that you perhaps managed to fire one or two shots at it - far from being enough to destroy it. Frustrating. With No Gravity at least my experience was rather different and far more enjoyable: You steer by moving the mouse out of the center of the screen. With two different views you can easily locate your enemies: the first one is quite normal. A small, 2D radar gives you information on everything which is in front of you. WHen you press "r", though, the second radar is being shown: This one is a 3D radar, which represents in small the whole space surrounding your ship. This view is extremely helpful and is in my opinion a key feature for No Gravity to become a extraordinary freeware title. Your firepower is infinite, but only over time, that is, the ammo is being recharged constantly but slowly.
COMMENT
The graphics of No Gravity are simple, but nice, the explosions and lighting effects are well done. The models again are lowpoly and simple but fit nicely into the look of the game. I like No Gravity for its solid gameplay which isn't frustrating even for beginners and at the same time being enough challange for anyone who already played a space-shooter. Of course this is no Freespace2 or Homeworld, this is more an arcade-type of spaceshooter. But don't get me wrong: This is no randomly generated one-level game. there are about 6 campaigns with nearly 10 missions each. This game has been well programmed and designed from the first splashscreen to the end-credits. It is a full grown game and if you like space shooters, you definitly should try this. If you don't like spaceshooters, this could be the game to change your mind...
