SYNOPSIS
Commercial quality in complex strategy titles is not often found in the indie-scene. Here we have an excellent freeware title which meets this claim.
STORY
Yes, there is a story, but you should find out for yourself. It's mission based, so don't expect an epic science-fiction story but solid, small bits of information and story told at the beginning of a mission.
GAMEPLAY
Man, I wasn't expecting much when I first played this game. Then, some hours later I realized it was dark outside and I had totally forgotten about time. Battleships forever, this title really has a point, maybe you should call it 'Battleships forPresident', if you allow me this little play of words. Now lets see, why this game fascinates not only me, but apparently the whole indie-gamescene.
First of all, Battleships is what I call a action-strategy-title. And this is an excellent mixture. It's challenging, cunning and gameply is extremely well done. That's the second main reason why this title maybe so popular. The controls are excellently programmed; given the complexity of the game, you still are able to give your commands wihtout loosing the clear view. Zooming in and out, easy access of commands and an innovative mouse-usage provide an enjoyable environment for the fiercest of space battles.
COMMENT
Yet another title done with gamemaker, whose professional design can easily compete with other, commercial titles of the kind. The graphical effects are excellent and both menu and gameplay are easily accessible. Of course, Battleships forever is not for pure action/FPS gamers. But everyone whose interest only scratch the strategy genre should give this freeware jem a try. In addition to the campaign and the free-play mode you can desiogn your own ships(!) with the integrated ship editor. Everyone not jubilating about a fullfeatured, commercial quality space strategy game like Battleships forever is either dumb or doesn't play computergames at all. Try it. No, really, try it.
